Time for Cutliffe to Make a Decision

By Evan Minarch

David Cutcliffe pulled off a brainy coaching decision by promptly announcing Sunday that Thad Lewis would be his quarterback for this week's battle with the Kansas Jayhawks.

Although I have only one problem with the way Cutcliffe went about things. It really is such a slight factor and I was reluctant to even bring it up, although felt bound to do so.

Cutcliffe indicated Lewis was one of many athletes who had gotten the flu and sat out in practice time.

If you tell me Lewis is a hero, I'm okay with this, principally since I do not have a say in the matter and you could care less what my opinion is. But there's furthermore the fact that you are the head coach/qb sage and identify more than I will ever know regarding that position.

There's no need to tell me Lewis isn't 100 percent.

He obviously claimed he didn't want to cause a qb controversy, however, as most identify, quarterback controversies nine times out of 10 are created by fans and media, not coaches.

If a quarterback controversy manifests because of Renfree's good performance and Lewis' not so great performance then cope with it if the questions appear.

While I agree with his decision and swiftness of it he might have opened up a small door for criticism of his starter.

If Lewis doesn't perform favorably at Kansas then Cutcliffe will definitely face questions regarding whether or not Lewis is one hundred percent and if he is not, why isn't Renfree playing more?.

So for the coach's sake I hope Lewis steps up and is victorious or has a good game, because the absolutely last thing the team needs right now in the wake of the great motivator of besting Army is a controversy.

Just ask Coach K if you are in search of a second opinion. He has had to cope with one or 2 of the type.
