Why Can't You Buy A Solar Hot Tub?

By Patty Kopner

If you are looking for a hot tub that works only on solar power you will have a hard time finding one. There are a lot of fancy hot tubs on the market with underwater blinking light, blaring music, and even ones with televisions but there arent any that run just on solar power.

The first problem is that not enough people live in a place that gets constant sun. Only the desert states have that amount of sunlight and that is not enough demand for this type of hot tub for manufacturers to make money. Also, since there would be no sunlight at night, you would still have to keep the water hot during those dark hours. This would mean that the hot tub would have to run on electricity as well.

Nevertheless, a hot tub that can be partially powered by the sun sounds like a great idea to many people. If you can get the right solar panels and have enough knowledge to hook them up to the hot tub and have them contribute to the energy source, it is possible to have a makeshift solar tub. Again though, totally using the sun to heat it will not work because there just isnt enough sun to get the job done.

If you want to use some solar power with your hot tub, what you need is a solar hot tub cover. What you will want to find is some sort of cover that has solar cells and transfers the energy to keeping the water warm. Hot tubs are usually kept on all the time to keep the water hot and a solar cover will help reduce the energy. You might look online to find such a cover or you might have to find it somewhere else locally. There are not that many retail outlets that deal with solar products so it might be harder to find than you think.

The low demand means that hot tubs powered by solar energy may never find their way on to the market. Even though it is a great idea, if money cant be made by it then no manufacturer will go forward with the idea. If you are interested in solar energy for any type of appliance, right now about the only thing you can do is to by solar panels and find a way to attach them to the power source.
