Fantasy Football Running Back Picks for Week 1

By Mike LaSusa

Adrian Peterson v. Cleveland Browns. The path for two thousand yards starts in Ohio. Look for Peterson to dominate the ball premature and regularly and shred the Browns' defensive unit for more than 150 total yards and two TDs. Mangini's authority will certainly make for a more regimented defense in 2009, but it won't take place in week 1 and it will not take place vs. the top |fantasy football RB.

MJD against. the Colts. Check back before game time, although if MJD is past the shin injury he suffered in the preseason finish, look for him to carve up this feeble Colts' defense. Essentially, Jones-Drew has consistently come up huge when playing versus Indianapolis, and this time he will not be sharing carries with Fred Taylor. 100 rush yards and at least 1 touchdown.

Pierre Thomas against the Lions. Thomas must have a bundle of opportunities to run with the ball vs. the Lions after the Saints jump out to a huge lead. And going versus a defensive unit that ranks towards the cellar of the league, 100 yds with a TD or two seems certainly attainable.

Michael Turner versus Miami. Atlanta and their high octane offense kick off the season versus last season's season's Cinderella franchise, the Miami Dolphins. And look for Atlanta to stay with what made the team so successful a season ago: the running game. Turner ought to see the ball at a minimum of twenty five times in this game and that should be sufficient to reach the hundred yard mark with a minimum of 1 TD.

Cedric Benson vs Denver Broncos. The interior of the Broncos defense this past year had a hole as big as the Atlantic Ocean, and they didn't do much to address it this offseason. Benson ended off '08 extremely strong and will aim to pick things up where he left off. A nice fantasy sleeper play in week 1.

Chris "Beanie" Wells vs the San Francisco niners. Wells will have an opportunity to begin his playing days with a bang vs the san francisco 49ers. While the Niners have a solid group of linebackers, their defensive line is small, and that means that the Arizona blockers will have a chance to acquire to the second level and create nice running lanes for Wells.
