By Sherri Weiss

With the rising popularity of masquerade balls in recent years, as well as the increasing use of masquerade ball masks by celebrities, it is no wonder that this theme is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. There are many kinds of masks to choose from, and in this article I will give a quick outline of the large variety of masks available to you.

Masks are the biggest factor that will have an impact on your outfit when you attend a masquerade party. Not all types of masks are right for every type of event, so you must be careful when you choose your mask for your masquerade ball.

The type of mask that you choose for your masquerade ball, whether it be a feather mask or a mask on a stick, will give your outfit and your aura a different feel depending on which one you choose. A great mask that looks amazing will make you look amazing as well!

Venetian style masks are very notable and well known types of masks for masquerade balls. They were originally worn to Carnival celebrations in Venice, which is where their name originates from. These masks were used by the upper class citizens to hide their identities and be free with themselves at their popular masquerade ball celebrations. These masks come in a variety of classical shapes and styles.

Currently, the most commonly seen sorts of masks for masquerade balls are half mask, full mask, eye mask and masquerade mask on sticks. The half mask is a kind of mask that goes over your eyes. It covers your forehead and nose secured to the face with ribbons. Most often, the lower part of the face and mouth is open.

A head mask is used to cover the entire head. It is usually worn so as to show off more elaborate designs on the back of the mask. Usually this head mask has animal hair, feathers or fabric that intertwines with the wearers costume.

Masquerade masks on sticks are usually worn by the female attendees of the masquerade party, and therefore these masks for masquerade balls are generally more feminine in nature, although they can be worn by men if they are made to be more masculine. Deciding whether or not to use a stick is an important decision, so choose wisely!

If you are an artistic person and feel that you would prefer to make your own masquerade mask, there are definitely places out there that will have the materials you need, although I generally warn against trying to make your own mask for your masquerade ball, because you will still end up paying alot for the mask, and it is definitely not as easy as it seems! Still the info in this article should be more than enough to help you choose a wonderful mask for yourself!
