Charlotte Bobcats, A Young Team On The Rise

By Steven Gittens

The Charlotte Bobcats have never made the NBA playoffs. They are hoping that might change this season. While the Bobcats have never been a successful team, they quietly had their best season in franchise history last year, finishing with a 35-47 record.

While this is by no means a record to celebrate about, they just missed the playoffs by four games. The Charlotte Bobcats also played some of their best basketball toward the end of the season, and this left many NBA fans wondering whether the team might be able to continue moving into the direction of a competitive basketball team.

Head Coach Larry Brown is an all-time great coach who has turned around teams before and made them playoff worthy - this could be Brown's toughest challenge to date.

Brown's work ethic and discipline seems to have carried into the Bobcats last season, as they suddenly looked like a team that believed they belonged in the post season.

The Bobcats are in the Southeast division with the Orlando Magic, Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks - this suggests the Bobcats can't win the division but they don't have to in order to make the playoffs.

The loss of Emeka Okafor may hurt the Bobcats in rebounding in the long term - Okafor was 10th in the NBA in rebounding averaging 10.1 per game.

The x-factor on this team is Gerald Wallace, whose hustle, versatility, and sophisticated floor presence give the team a serious weapon that many teams would love to have themselves.

The Bobcats have improved every season since they have been in the league, 2004. Their lowest win total was 15 games but those days should be well past the franchise. It is very possible the Bobcats can make the 8th seed in the East and give Cleveland, Orlando, or Boston fits in the first round match up. Charlotte is a good sports town and they want a winning basketball team to cheer for.
