The type of tires you use on your bike depends on its usage. Mountain bikes can be ridden on many different terrains and for different activities. Tires either come with a standard inner tube to keep them inflated or they are tubeless, so the question to answer is which one do you go for?

The majority of tubeless tires have a thick sidewall that fits into a specific sealed-bed rim. These tires can handle rough ground so they are perfect for downhill, but the flip side is the cost.

The advantages of an airtight seal and a stable, puncture-resistant, low-pressure performance are balanced out by the high price. You also need a clean rim and tire to fit them, along with a big pump to inflate them.

Even with a CO2 cartridge pump you'll probably have to use an inner tube to get you home, where you can the repair the tire. You can get kits now to convert a standard tire with an inner tube into a tubeless tire. They mix a latex-based filling liquid with a rubber rim strip to seal the tire and rim. You may have to top up the filler sometimes but the cost is less than buying a standard tubeless tire.

You still get most of the low pressure advantages of a tubeless tire but with a much bigger choice of rims and treads, and with only the initial kit cost and latex top-ups to pay for. They are also lighter although the same repair problems on the trail apply unfortunately.

Whichever kind of tire you choose, it is essential to replace your tires regularly. A blow out on a trail can cause injury to you or other riders or even cost you a competition. With proper maintenance and careful selection, your tires will make a massive difference to your riding.

Tiger's Disappointment to the Golf World

In a very interesting and atypical twist today, Tiger Woods blew a lead entering the final round of the PGA Championships, losing to Y.E. Yang, a relatively unknown golfer. Woods had simply never lost a major after leading or being tied for the lead, and the world was shocked after witnessing today's events.

Is this good? I don't really think so. The PGA heavily relies on Tiger Woods and the sentiment on the street is that Woods simply isn't effective as he was, and may never be again.

Tiger hasn't lost it, he's won 5 tournaments this year, coming from 5 strokes back on Sunday to win one, and coming back from 8 shots down Thursday to win by 3 strokes on Sunday. But, as I said, casual golf fans don't get that. In fact, most sports fans probably don't get that because he hasn't performed in the biggest events, the Majors, the moneymakers, the events that pull in the biggest ratings.

Yang winning is good, at the moment. But looking back 20 or 30 years from now, wouldn't you rather tell your kids or grandchildren about how the greatest golfer of all time beat some other guy in a 12-hole playoff after holing out from the fairway on 18. Wouldn't you rather have told your grandkids about how Tom Watson, the old geezer like you, won the British Open instead of pushing an 8 foot putt way to the right and self-destructing in a 4 hole playoff?

Yet, this pushes it to another level. You're talking about the greatest golfer on Earth, losing to some no-name from South Korea who probably won't win another major. If Tiger had won, it would've given hope to next year, a hope maybe he finally does what he was destined to do, win all the major in the same year and pass Jack Nicklaus for the most Major wins ever.

What do people get to look to now? "Oh, I can't wait to see Tiger take revenge in the exciting series of FedEx cup event"? No! They are looking to, "Hey, Anthony Kim or Rory McIllroy are ready to take the torch next year."

We need the Tiger, the best golfer, to be well, the best golfer. He needs to hold leads on Sunday. He needs people to be scared on the last few holes with Tiger on the prowl. We need Tiger Woods to dominate everybody and ask questions later. If he's labeled the best, he needs to start performing in the biggest and best events.

Here's to hoping that 2010 brings us a Tiger resurgence, and most notably, a major or two. The sport really needs it.

Running a quiz night: Definitive guide

First things first...

The key to a successful quiz night is preparation. A good quiz should always include interesting questions with popular subjects. You can either create your own quiz or buy from a reputable supplier.

Rounds:

I recommend that most quizzes should begin with a picture round. This allows you to go to each table (if in a bar or pub) asking if they are going to participate and also lets them know the quiz will be starting imminently.

In a bar / pub walk to each table asking if they will be joining in. If they are, hand the sheets to them (usually the picture round and an answer sheet) and collect their money.

The Questions: When I write a quiz I make sure I include a number of levels of difficulty. There is nothing worse than setting a question that receives a groan from everyone as they all know the answer. Make the questions challenging and guessable. I aim for most teams to correctly answer between 40 and 80 percent of questions.

Make sure the questions in the quiz are interesting and guessable. If someone cannot answer the question they should be able to have a go, and if they don't know the answer the question should be interesting enough that they want to know.

However, the most important thing about a quiz question is accuracy. I did a pub quiz once where the question was "What is the minumum wage per hour in the UK" and it was asked just after the government increased it. However, the quiz did not reflect this and there was a mini uproar in the pub as half the teams knew it had gone up! Avoid this! Teams don't like losing by a single point, and especially don't like losing on a debatable point!

The Quiz Master:

Being able to speak to an audience can help when there are a lot of people taking part in the quiz. Try to read the rules and questions as clearly as possible, and it doesn't hurt to add some banter with the participants. Be fair at all times, but try to be assertive too. The quiz master should always have the final say.

Format:

The layout of the quiz depends on the situation - obviously a quiz for a social event will be formatted differently to an evening in with friends at your house!

A picture round is usually a good start for a quiz with a large number of teams. It allows you time to greet everyone taking part and collect entry money.

The Tiebreaker Questions:

Teams can obviously score the same number of points and when this happens a tiebreaker question comes into play. I think the best way to handle this is for every team to vote for a member to answer this question.

However, they must get up in front of everyone, toss a coin to see who will answer first, and then answer the questions with the help of everyone else shouting their opinion. This makes for a more entertaining end to the evening and of course, everyone gets to shout their opinion!

Prizes:

Now that the winner has been decided, handing over the well-earned prize can also be done in a fun way. Don't just give them a free drink or some money - entice them to bet the prize for a sweeter one!

They could select from an envelope, gamble on successfully completing a Play Your Cards Right game, answer another question - the options are only limited by your imagination.

There are two basic questions I suggest:

1. Where are you from?

2. What do you do for work/school?

This will get a response for example: "I am from here, born and raised"

You should respond with a follow up question such as: "Really, so all your family lives here also?"

The purpose for these specific questions is they will almost always elicit a response that will give you more information for follow up questions.

Another example if you use question #2 and she responds with: "I work in sales"

You could then follow up with "What sort of sales?" or "How long have you been doing it?" or even simple questions such as "do you like it?"

After you ask 2 or 3 follow up questions you should answer the questions you asked her, regardless of if she asks them of you or not. In other words after she told you where she was from, and how long she lived there, ... you would respond with telling her where you are from and how long you have lived there.

By answering your own questions you overcome two large obstacles.

1. She does not feel like she is being interviewed

2. She feels like she is getting to know you because you are revealing information about yourself.

Last tip; Don't say anything negative. Instead say good things and don't talk bad about other people. A woman will form a negative opinion of you if you are complaining about something or bad mouthing someone the first time she meets you.

This trail can get muddy after heavy rains, though, so you may want to wait until the trails have dried up a bit before starting out. And be sure to bring bug spray. The insects can get a little aggressive. This trail is also used by horseback riders and hikers.

Local residents built a 10-mile bike trail abutting the Brandywine Creek State Park. Called Woodlawn Trustees, this trail area is not far from Wilmington and makes for a great ride with pleasant views. The fields and trees are especially beautiful and interesting during the summer and fall. And once you get started, you can head right on into the state park, as well, if you want to.

Within Brandywine Creek State Park, there are lots of different trails, but not all are designated for biking. Terms of the deal were similar to the contract offer that was pulled in early July, starting the entire drama. After negotiations broke down due to some miscommunication between Odoms agent and Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss it looked for awhile like Odom was headed elsewhere. While Odom worked to mend fences"including several personal phone calls to Dr. Buss"his agent was receiving interest from Miami, Portland and Dallas.

None of the competing offers were as compelling as returning to the NBA champion Lakers. At the official signing ceremony, he hinted that a dynasty could be in the making:

Weekly Review: Courtballistec 1.1 and 1.2 by Nike

The Nike Air Courtballistec 1.1 and 1.2 shoes are a great alternative to those looking for a solid shoe without breaking the bank. Compared to the Nike Air Courtballistec 1.3, the cost of these shoes are around 30-40% off.

Arguably the greatest quality of the Nike Air Courtballistec 1.1 and Nike Air Courtballistec 1.2 is they are still solid and performance shoes. They have similar styles of the 1.3 as well. When we tested the shoes, they never felt like a cheap, stripped down model of the most expensive Nike offering.

After wearing the Courtballistec 1.2 sneakers for about a week, I was quite pleased overall. These were firm as far as ankle support goes, yet they were lightweight and I moved around great in them. I had worn the 1.3 the week before this, and I didn't feel much of a difference to be honest.

While we found that the 1.3 runs a bit small, the 1.2 sneaker fits exactly as it should, so rest assured that any online purchases should go right along with your normal shoe size. It didn't take too long to take the stiffness out of these, and they're also lighter than the 1.3 sneakers.

The out sole of both Nike Air Courtballistecs follow a modified herringbone tread pattern, great for all court surfaces. The tread was also extremely durable and showed no visible wear after multiple uses.

Looking at the Courtballistec 1.1, these were the first sneakers in the line. As far as looks go, they basically look the same. They wear down a little more, as this was one of the bigger criticisms of the 1.1 when it came out. Nike has obviously tended to this concern with its 1.3, but if you're a serious player, you might find yourself in need of a new tennis sneaker within 3 months or so.

In the case of the 1.1 shoe, they do run a bit small, just like the 1.3 does. If you wear a 10, for example, you might want to get a 9.5 instead. As far as weight is concerned, the 1.1 seems to be the lightest of the three.

The Nike Air Courtballistec 1.3 would definitely be my recommendation for anyone who plays at a competitive level. Anyone who plays once or twice per week, casually in matches, and seeks out a reasonably priced sneaker with high quality performance will be pleased with either the 1.1 or the 1.2.

Again, what you'll pay will run you roughly $100 for a table and four chairs to $400 and better for a table and four chairs. So again, it depends on your budget, but don't think that you have to spend a huge amount of money to get a good quality folding card table and accessories.

I earlier stated that there were a few part to this. Fist off, you will need to figure out what you want to buy, and the amount of your budget as well. So you want to plan a trip to Las Vegas. Great decision! Now, the question is what are the nicest and fanciest places in town?

So, you say that you want to stay in the nicest hotel in Las Vegas. Well there are a couple of options for you, as there isn't "one best option". A good place to start would be the AAA Five Diamond Award winning resorts. On Las Vegas Boulevard (or the strip) there is the Bellagio, Venetian, MGM Skylofts, the Four Seasons, and of course the Wynn.

By now I would assume that you really aren't too interested in a place that has penny slots or $5 blackjack. That's good, because all of these places can accommodate high limit gambling if you choose to partake. All except the Four Seasons, as that hotel does not offer gambling. Most of the high rollers have been enjoying the action at the Wynn, Bellagio, and Venetian as of late.

The Bellagio is a very elaborate and nicely presented hotel that just screams class. It's most remembered for the fountains directly in front of the hotel. It offers plenty of fine dining options, and is a sight to behold. During your trip, you should take a look at the Botanical Gardens. It is an elaborate inside garden that they change throughout the year.

The Venetian is an Italian themed hotel that puts an emphasis on Italian themed art and decor. The ceilings are painted like the Sistine Chapel, and the tile work and wall decorations bring the whole look together for a beautiful hotel. Most people remember the Venetian for the gondolas that go inside the mall, and in front of the hotel. Guests can actually take a ride in them with singing gondoliers. The Venetian really is a neat place to visit.

The MGM Skylofts are located at the top of the MGM Grand. The MGM Skylofts are wonderful rooms with lots of luxuries and amenities that don't come with a normal room at the MGM Grand. The MGM Grand itself is a nice place with a wide variety of gaming, dining, and entertainment options. It isn't as flashy as say the Wynn or Bellagio, but it is still a great place.

One of the most famous casino resort/real-estate developers in the world is Steve Wynn. His previous projects include the Mirage, Treasure Island, and the Bellagio before they were sold. Since then, he has outdone himself yet again with the Wynn and most recently its sister hotel Encore.

The Wynn, which Steve claims as, "The only hotel I've ever signed my name to" really has has a lot to offer its guests. In the Wynn, you'll find fine dining, the Esplanade Shoppes which feature some of the most famous brands in retail, to a golf course, and even a Ferrari/Maserati dealership! Around every turn you will find visually stimulating displays. The Wynn really puts emphasis on luxury and great service, and is a great place to stay in Las Vegas.

All of these places are wonderful and absolutely stunning. Keep in mind if you're looking for dollar drafts or five dollar blackjack, it will be difficult to find in these properties. Be prepared to splurge a little, but if you really want to experience Las Vegas luxury, these places are second to none.

Ten Must Have Hiking Ingredients

Whether you will be dayhiking or doing a multi-day backpacking trip, these items will insure a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience.

First recommendation is to obtain a map of the area that you will be hiking. You don't want to become lost, so pick up a map at the visitor center, ranger station or download one at www.usgs.gov. If you suffer an injury, you can use the map to aid rescuers in locating you.

Get yourself a good map reading compass. Using the map and compass together, you can orient your map to your direction and surroundings, choose the correct path and keep yourself on course.

Two, one liter bottles of water so that you stay hydrated. This is your minimum required intake per day, but since hiking is physically demanding you will drink more, especially in warmer climates. You can survive for a month without food, but only two or three days without water. You should have some sort of water treatment with you. I carry Aqua-Mira, which is a liquid purifying agent.

It's possible to spend an unexpected night in the woods. Always have some extra food, enough for an additional day if you need it. Even having a few back up whole food bars with you should do the trick. Especially if they constitute meal replacement. You will have the extra energy with you just in case.

Bring a couple more layers of clothing. These will serve to keep you warm and dry should the temperature drop unexpectedly, you somehow become wet or both. Choose layers that are synthetic. Most of them will still retain some insulative quality even if they are wet and they tend to dry a lot faster.

Pack some sort of light source like a headlamp or flashlight. If you are forced to make camp or hike out in the dark, you will be able to see trail debris an obstacles that could cause danger.

Having an accident or injury in the backcountry is no fun. Bring a small first aid kit with you. You can create one out of household supplies but don't forget hiking needs like moleskin or blister treatment. I recommend taking a basic wilderness medicine course.

Matches, a lighter and or candle as firestarters. Be certain to keep them in a waterproof container. Only light a fire in the wilderness if it is a matter of survival, not just simply staying warm if an additional layer of clothing will do. Prevent wildfires, use caution!

A small camping knife may come in handy for a number of purposes. Make sure that the one you use has a locking blade, you don't want it to close on a finger.

Last but not least, UV protection. Bring a hat with a brim, sunblock and a pair of sunglasses if you will be out in the sun for an extended period. Your eyes and skin will thank you.
