Three Main Cuts To Wrestling Singlets

By Jim Howard

Wrestling singlets are the type of clothing that amateur wrestlers adorn themselves in for a match. The uniforms are made from a lycra, spandex or nylon material. The uniforms are supposed to create a generally tighter feeling on the wrestler to avoid their opponent pulling the singlet off during the match by mistake. During amateur wrestling matches it is actually considered illegal in the game for someones singlet to be torn from their bodies.

In many high school and college wrestling matches, students will be seen wearing wrestling singlets that represent a particular color of their school, or their teams underlying color scheme. When wrestlers are not having an at home game in a school competition, often times they will be told to bring a singlet that is reversible so they can change the color of their uniform as they progress through the matches.

Wrestling singlets used to be extremely popular as many professional wrestlers attire. However, the utilization of the wrestling singlets has declined throughout professional wrestling immensely.

The singlets come in a variety of different cuts. The term cuts refers to the way the singlet is made to appear. The cuts are the fila cut, the high cut and also the low cut singlet. The uniforms serve the same purpose of keeping the wrestler clothed while engaging in the sport, but each singlet bares its own qualities as far as appearance is concerned.

A lot of the high cut singlets can be seen at high school wrestling matches. They are considered the most common singlet, because it covers up most of the wrestlers body. The cut covers their whole entire chest and raises up to right underneath their underarms for full body coverage.

The fila cut; singlet is cut in a high cut fashion as well. However, it does bare some differences from the traditional high cut singlet. The fila does not rise as high as the high cut does under the arms, it leaves wrestlers with a looser fit singlet that they can move in freely.

The third singlet, which is referred to as the most revealing of the three is the low cut singlet. The singlet allows the wrestlers chest as well as their arms to show, many professional wrestlers would adorn themselves in the low cut singlets. These particular uniforms allow the wrestler to have a larger range of motion, as well as creates a cooler environment for the wrestler as they sweat profusely through their match. Many wrestlers love this particular singlet over all the other cuts.
