Introducing Harry's Hotel, Aberystwyth

By Karl Fraser

Wales is widely known for it's beautiful countryside of lush green hills and valleys but the country also features some of the finest coastline in the United Kingdom. Found on the west coast of Wales is the small, but lively, town of Aberystwyth which looks out across the Irish Sea and is backed by three gorgeous Welsh hills. The town's harbour is fed by the confluence of the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol and is extremely popular for water sports such as surfing.

Although the beaches of Aberystwyth do not feature soft golden sand like the many others along the Welsh coast (the sand is very gritty) the harbour is an immensely popular venue for water sports. Running the length of the beach is a wide promenade with some fine Victorian/Edwardian buildings overlooking it.

In the late'th Century Aberystwyth became a university town (1872). Although the University of Wales (formerly Aberystwyth University) remains small, during term time, the eight thousand students account for almost a third of the town's total population.

To meet the demands of the local, student and tourist population you will find that dotted about the town are countless bars, cafes and pubs. Ranging from the local type pub to the flash town centre bars there is plenty to choose from but few establishments rival Harry's Hotel And Bistro for atmosphere.

Harry's Hotel is centrally located and is well known throughout the town as having a fantastic Irish Bar (which can sometimes act as a venue for live music). Recently refurbished the hotel now has an open plan kitchen with a Modern Bistro style menu.

The one way system in place at Aberystwyth can confuse some people, Harry's is easy enough to find as it is on the left hand side of the road on the one-way system along North Parade.

Harry's Hotel is within easy walking distance of many Aberystwyth visitor attractions and it is found not too far from the town's railways station and Tourist Information Office. The hotel benefits from having large spacious rooms which are light and airy. The majority of rooms have soft furnishings, flat screen satellite TV, Wi-Fi Internet and a great many other common facilities and some more usual in more luxurious accommodation.

One of the great things about Aberystwyth is that it is within easy distance of places such as Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff (roughly two to three hours away but a pleasant drive). So, if you are visiting any of these cities on business you may wish to spend the weekend relaxing at Harry's Hotel And Bistro. Who says you can't mix business with pleasure?
