How I Learned How to Dunk a Basketball

By Ryan Lacioca

I'm about to tell you my story, as I know for a fact that there are loads of you out there who've been through what I have, imagining the day you'd at long last have the ability to throw down a good, powerful dunk on the basketball court.

All that I can tell you is that I was very much like you not too long ago. Everything changed nearly two years back, which I will get to in a second. Before I begin, I'm going to give you a bit background info regarding me. I go by Blake, I am foot 9, and I deem myself a moderately respectable athlete.

During my childhood, basketball was consistently my favorite sport, and I sought zero more than to learn how to dunk. I would see the slam dunk contest on TV every season, play on the Nerf hoop in my bedroom, and if there were any such thing as Youtube back then, I can just about assure you that I would have watched it every, watching highlights as often as possible.

Anyhow, I was on my high school basketball team. I was always a solid player, one of the more skilled players on my squad, however I was always trying to dunk the ball, but couldn't. It was a combination of my short height as well as the reality that my leg muscles (and several additional details that I would later find out about) weren't strong enough, and I had no idea how to dunk a basketball.

I finally let up on learning how to dunk a basketball. It was not the end of the world, however it was kind of disappointing. Hey, at least I was, nonetheless, a good basketball player.

Long story short, a couple years elapsed after high school, and one day I came into contact with an old classmate named James. He was at least two inches shorter than me, and I saw him dunk right before my very eyes. I was literally shocked!

James ended up introducing me to a method that changed the way I see the sport of basketball. I now understand how to dunk...and I can dunk with style.
