Deep Impact: With a comet on a collision course for Earth. A decision is made to send a space ship out to intercept the comet, and 'seed' it with nuclear bombs. The explosion splits the comet in two, with the smaller part still heading toward Earth. With a devastating impact looming, it is learned that 1 million Americans will be chosen by lottery to go underground into a network of caves built to survive the impact, and the following sequence of disasters.
The Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy: Arthur Dent is about to see his house get bulldozed down for a new road coming through. His best friend is unconcerned, and takes him to the pub for some beers. Then he shocks Arthur by telling him that he is an alien, and that the Earth will be destroyed in a few minutes, as a hyperspace bypass is being built. Arthur has a moment or two to decide to go with his friend, as they will hitchhike on a passing space freighter. He decides to go, and this starts an incredible adventure.
Above the Law: This is Steven Segal's breakout movie. He plays a Chicago Police man who takes matters into his own hands. As the title implies, he is 'above the law'. He uses his large body and martial arts skills to wreak havoc on the bad guys. Stars include Steven Segal, Pam Grier, and Sharon Stone. (1988 Action)
From Nashville with Music: Some excellent country and western music, although one would be better served to purchase one of the actors' albums rather than agonizing through this tale of a New York couple who go to the Grand Ole Opry by accident. Cast includes Marilyn Maxwell, Leo G. Carroll, Pedro Gonzalez, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens. (87 minutes, 1969)
Richard Pryor Live on the Sunset Strip: Pryor on Africa, sex, lawyers, his spouse, sex, Italian mobsters, more sex, and freebasing. Some of it's ludicrous, some isn't, however the audience is always shown tripled over with laughter. (82 minutes, 1982)
Life With Father: Powerful adaptation of a long running Broadway play by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crusoe based on Clarence Night's tale of growing up in turn-of-the-century NYC with his admiring although offbeat dad. This is utterly admirable, and a handsome production also. The Screen-play is by Donald Ogden Stewart. Cast includes William Powell, Irene Dunne, Elizabeth Taylor, Edmund Gwenn, ZaSu Pitts, Jimmy Lydon, and Matlin Milner. (118 minutes, 1947)
See you in the Morning: Bridges and Krige follow a difficult journey to a second matrimony for both of them, trying to delete poor memories and lingering complications and having to triumph over each other's youngsters. Overall knowledge, warmth, and gentility are expressed in this relationship film. Cast includes Jeff Bridges, Alice Krige, Farrah Fawcett, Linda Lavin, Drew Barrymore, and Robin Bartlett. Commando: Here's an extremely loud comic magazine flick in reference to a retired special ops man (Schwarzenegger), who's made to go back in time when vengeful goons abduct his child. Cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Daybreak Chong, Dan Hedaya, Vernon Wells, David Patrick Kelly, and Alyssa Milano. (88 minutes, 1985)
