I Love You Alice B: Phenomenal comedy in reference to the panicking of a well-known and successful L.A. attorney. Peter Sellers puts on one of his best performances in this piece. The Good Girl: A 30-year-old female who feels her life is at a dead end becomes captivated with a young loner, and ends up setting her matrimony at risk. A rare film that manages to make a shift from comedy to poignant drama, with a denouement that's almost heartrending-as a result of excellent inscribing and remarkable performing by the leads. Cast includes Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllen Haal, John C. Reilly, Zoey Deschanel, Tim Blake Nelson, Mike Off-white, Deborah Hurry, and John Carroll Lynch. (93 minutes, 2002)
Try or Rock: Neil Simon's supreme comedy of embarrassment, adjusted from Bruce Jay Friedman's small tale "A Change of Plan." Jewish boy Grodin gets wedded to Berlin and meets an attractive WASP blond Shepherd on their honeymoon, and decides he must change his life. Very comical but that depends on your point of view. The Cast includes Charles Grodin, Cybill Shepherd, Jeannie Berlin, Eddie Albert, and Audra Lindley. (104 minutes, 1972)
Buffalo Soldiers: In 1989, the peacetime U.S. Army stationed in Germany is largely manned by men who had an option of penitentiary or time in the service. One of them (Phoenix) is a salesperson who wheels and deals, Bilko-like, under the nose of his naive commander (Harris) till a new top sergeant shows up (Glenn) who's decided to clean things up. Cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Anna Paquin, Elizabeth McGovern, Michael Pena, Leon Robinson, Gabriel Mann, and Dean Stockwell. (98 minutes, 2003)
The Omen: This is a remake of the classic 1976 original. Born under suspicious circumstances, young Damian is a difficult child that his mother thinks he is evil. As things develop we soon realize that Damian is in fact the son of the devil. Now his father must go to Megiddo to learn how to stop the antichrist.
Dying Young: Aimless youthful lady replies to a newspaper ad and becomes nurse/friend to a 28-year old rich kid who's stricken with leukemia. Eventually they fall in love. As perfect stage for Roberts' charms and as love tale it has its good moments. Cast includes Julia Roberts, Scott, Vincent Donofrio, David Selby, and Ellen Bursty. (105 minutes, 1991)
Adam's Apples: This movie is a bizarre dark comedy about two very different men who have a battle of wills. It is a newly developed religious zealot versus a hard core neo-Nazi criminal. The battle of good versus evil is on. The main stars are Ulrich Thomsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolas Brom, and Paprika Steen. (German-Danish-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen)
